Growing up and even now I have learned in depth about wild animals and other creatures. But when I learned about farm animals and other commonly eaten animals I was taught “milk comes from cows!” “chickens lay eggs!” very basic facts about how we consume and use them. When really these animals are so interesting and are not just “dumb” or “food” animals. People disconnect themselves from these animals so they feel less guilty when eating them.

And some fish use tools :)

Potent minimalist art sends a strong message about police and vigilante brutality in America

Journalist and artist Shirin Barghi has created a gripping, thought-provoking series of graphics that not only examines racial prejudice in today’s America, but also captures the sense of humanity that often gets lost in news coverage. Titled “Last Words,” the graphics illustrate the last recorded words by Brown and other young black people — Trayvon Martin, Oscar Grant and others — who have been killed by police in recent years.

Let us not forget their voices

Lately I feel like tumblr has been this desperate harbor of posts and human efforts trying to make a change, bringing stories back and forth like some morbid post office, or the bloody nursing station of a battlefield. Each visit to my dashboard feels growing in anger and desparation because of the rush of awareness to social justice issues lately. Reading one post after another and signing Change.org petitions about twisted circumstances that the system has put innocent people through makes me feel like there’s no hope and we’re going in some sudden downward spiral of white supremacy and normalized systematic racism, even though it’s been there all along. I hope this particularly shitty moment in history will open our eyes a bit more and motivate our generation to stay viligantly critical and educated.

Sgt. Thomas McVicar of the Jersey City Police Department shot 22 year old Kwadir Felton, leaving him blind, after Kwadir pulled a gun on him, he claims. Kwadir Felton denied the accusation, stating that he doesn’t even carry guns.

"I don’t understand!" Felton yelled at a police officer before his mother was removed from the courtroom. "You didn’t have to shoot me in the head for no reason! You trying to charge me with something I didn’t do!"

Sign the Change.org petition and get this story out there.

SIGN THE PETITION. Still at least 1,000 signatures needed. SIGNAL BOOST THIS or i will judge you.
